144 Vanderbilt was conceived as an inventive reinterpretation of Brooklyn living through thoughtful, considered, and often playful architecture and design. From the exterior, the building’s composition evokes the form of a historical village, where components are stacked at different heights, angles and setbacks—with each residence articulated separately by these subtle shifts, and featuring oversized windows that frame vistas of Brooklyn, Fort Greene Park, Manhattan and beyond.

The building is wrapped almost entirely in pink precast concrete, enabling a fully realized, carefully detailed architectural vision that is unlike any other in New York City. The scalloped surfaces of these bespoke yet precisely fabricated panels cast ever-changing shadows throughout the day. Two finishes, an acid wash and a sandblasted texture, expose the warm tones of the concrete aggregate, adding complexity and nuance to the facade. The material variation and subtle shifts in orientation create a dynamic effect that will stand the test of time.

Across the building, multiple breaks in its envelope form terraces and breezeways that allow natural ventilation across the exterior hallways and enable a constant connection to the neighborhood from inside. Accessed via two elevators with enclosed landings, these shared spaces offer welcoming porches for the residences. The semi-outdoor corridors also create framed views along Myrtle and Vanderbilt avenues where they meet the building’s perimeter.

A New Landmark For A Beloved Neighborhood. With its distinctive pink color and articulated geometry, 144 Vanderbilt provides a new landmark for Fort Greene.

The prominent intersection of historic Vanderbilt and Myrtle avenues offers the building’s southeast corner heightened prominence and visibility from its surroundings. Its contemporary architectural style adds a new layer to the eclectic aesthetic of the neighborhood, and the pink tones of its concrete facades complement the varied brickwork across nearby brownstones.

From its eight-story peak, the building gracefully steps down to integrate with the height of townhouses along leafy Vanderbilt Avenue. Situated uphill from the waterfront, 144 Vanderbilt’s many north and west-facing terraces also enjoy views over the rooftops to the East River and Manhattan. The building sits just four blocks from Fort Greene Park—the neighborhood’s true heart and epicenter—and two blocks from the innovation campus, restaurants, and facilities at the Navy Yard. 144 Vanderbilt is also within easy reach of some of Brooklyn’s best dining options, and is perfectly situated to enjoy the best that this dynamic neighborhood has to offer.
